To meet the specific objectives of ex situ conservation, characterization, documentation, and distribution of the desired crops’ germplasm, Saveer has come up with a state of the art gene bank/ seed storage facility. The genetic resources of crop plants and their wild relatives are stored and conserved in gene banks. The collection serves as insurance against genetic erosion and as a source of resistance to diseases & pests, tolerance to climatic and other environmental stresses and improved quality and yield traits for crop improvement.
